Think it was that recent article on GSS in the TRIBUNE that I read the "plan" is to help agitated (!!) youth calm down by providing them a room containing, of all things...

BEAN BAG CHAIRS and...

...NERF BALLS??!

Great idea, uh-huh... oh, yeah.  That'll calm 'em down, sure thing.  Just what they need.  More comfort.  More toys.  More coddling.  Then, when they get out of the security cell they can go back to abusing/maiming thier peers and staff.  One should not lose sight of the fact that these kids, a number of them, anyhow, are being incarcerated for pistol whipping and KILLING people!!  This whole idea of giving them comfy things to play with seems soooo odd to me -- am I alone here??  MY attitude is to give them what they want... say... LAWN DARTS for example.  They were fun when WE were kids, so why not now?

Well, OK... maybe times have changed some.   But that's OK.  The old "tried and true" methods usually still are effective when it comes to giving kids something to do, and, keeping them in line at the same time.

When we were kids, adults knew what was needed and gave it to kids when they deserved it and WE ALL turned out allright, eh?  Darn kids nowdays have it waaaay too easy.  Ahhh, the Good Old Days...
